DOJ Investigating Mills’ Finances and Overseas Business Dealings

Rep. Cory Mills, who represents Florida’s 7th Congressional District, is reportedly under an active criminal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, according to multiple national news organizations.

The investigation appears to involve more than a recent preliminary inquiry. Reporting indicates that FBI investigative activity involving Mills dates back to at least 2025, when agents reportedly contacted at least one person about Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct and people associated with him.

DOJ Investigating Mills’ Finances and Overseas Business Dealings

Fox News reported on July 22, 2026 that a source familiar with the matter confirmed Mills was under active criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. Fox reported that the specific focus of the investigation was not yet known publicly.

ABC News reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the investigation, that Mills’ finances are at least one focus of the federal inquiry. 

NBC News reported that federal investigators are examining Mills’ finances and alleged overseas business dealings. The NBC report cited multiple people familiar with the investigation.

According to a source cited by MS NOW, the FBI contacted at least one person in 2025 regarding Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct and individuals in his orbit. That means federal investigative activity involving Mills reportedly began well before the DOJ criminal investigation became public in July 2026.

Federal Investigators Reportedly Issued a Subpoena

Additional reporting indicates that the investigation has involved compulsory investigative measures rather than simply reviewing publicly available information.

A Florida news report summarizing NBC’s investigation said federal investigators had issued a subpoena to at least one witness while examining allegations involving Mills’ finances.

The Exact Scope Remains Unknown

Federal authorities have not publicly identified the criminal statutes being investigated, and no charging documents related to the investigation have been made public.

The federal criminal investigation is separate from an extensive investigation already underway in Congress.

The House Ethics Committee has been investigating Mills over a broad range of allegations involving his finances, campaign activity and personal conduct. Fox News reported that the congressional inquiry has included allegations involving campaign-finance violations, sexual misconduct and dating violence.

The Ethics investigation began in 2025 and has continued into 2026. Fox reported in April that the committee confirmed its investigation remained active.

According to other reporting, the Ethics Committee has examined allegations involving campaign-finance reporting, financial disclosures, improper gifts, misuse of congressional resources and sexual misconduct.
